Soft Javelin
This is a standing throw , using a soft
javelin that is made of a special foam, and designed to fly in a
straight line. The aim is to throw the javelin as far as you can in a
straight line. The best throwers can throw over 25 metres. Remember
that even though the javelin is foam, it has the potential to injure
somebody. You should always treat throws as if you were using real,
heavy metal throwing equipment.
Rules
1. You must throw from a standing position with both feet nehind the
throwing line. Both you feet must be on the floor all the time.
2. The judges will measure your throw from the throwing line to the
point where the tip of the javelin first hits the ground.
3. The throw is always measured to the nearest metre by the officials.
Technique Hints
1. The correct place to hold the javelin is at the point where it
balances when you lay it in the palm of your hand.
2. before you throw, make sure you have the correct stance. The
opposite leg to the throwing arm should be the one that is put forward.
3. Never throw the javelin back to the next thrower, and remember not
to throw until the coach or judge has told you to do so.
