Standing Triple Jump
This is a hop, step and jump from a
standing start. Together, these three phases are called the triple
jump. On a competition mat, you choose which line you take-off from,
depending on how far you think you can jump.
Rules
1. You must start off on one foot, and your hop, step, jump sequence
must be done correctly or the judges can give you a no-jump;
2. The judges measurefrom the take-off line to the back of the nearest
heel to where you jumped from.
3. You can step forward after your jump, but if you step back or touch
the mat or floor behind where your feet have landed, it is a no-jump.
Technique Hints
1. If you are struggling to learn the right order of the jumps, holding
onto your leg on your hop can help you get that part right;
2. Think about getting into the rhythm of the jump in your head by
saying "hop", "step", "jump" to yourself as you jump.
3. Remember that hardly anybody gets standing triple jump right on
their first go, and it takes a lot of practice to be able to perform it
really well. Practice makes perfect!
