Vertical Jump
In the vertical jump, you jump from a
two-footed standing position. The vertical jump is a good test of your
leg strength. The vertical jump is done with a vertical jump board,
that uses a sliding scale so that it can be adjusted to each person's
height before their jump. You jump up and touch the board at the
highest point that you can.
Rules
1. Before your jump you must stand with your back, head and heels
touching the wall.
2. You must reach up and push the slider as far as you can with your
fingertips.
3. In competitions you may have to put chalk on your hand so that the
judges can see your mark on the board.
4. You should touch the boartd as high up as you possibly can. The
judges will measure it to the nearest centimetre below the chalk mark
that you have left on the board.
Technique Hints
1. Stand side-on to the board, whichever way you feel comfortable
2. Bend both your knees and lift your arms up to take-off
3. Try not to look at the board when you jump, and also try not to hit
it too ahrd, because that hurts!
